Asset Types

An asset type is a group of similar assets that have a common function, make-up and construction. Asset types are the building blocks for the physical asset hierarchy; they are used to create the asset trees that duplicate the basic divisions of all physical assets and asset categories. All information related to an asset type is configured only once, in one place, and assets and components can then be configured using the properties and descendant items defined for an asset type.

Asset types provide an efficient mechanism to simulate the actual maintenance environment and minimise the effort required to configure and maintain the asset register of assets.
