Options
Options are characteristics that apply to asset types and assets. An option provides specific information about a characteristic of an item in an asset type model and the possible values that apply to the characteristic for different items in asset models for physical assets, depending on their physical composition and context.
For example, an option for an aircraft may specify whether or not it has an "Entertainment System", and options for a vehicle may include "Engine Size" and whether or not it has "ABS".
Options are only configured for an asset type, although different options apply to different items in the asset type model.
Using options
In the asset type tree
Options are configured as linked detail records for asset types in an asset type model and are inherited by descendant sub asset types. Options linked to rules are automatically added to the regular asset type once the rule is linked to a child entity.
In the asset tree
The options that are available for a physical asset are listed in a lookup list of options for the asset type on which the asset is based. Option values can only be added to the asset for the set of options in the lookup list.
Option values
Option values are configured for the options that are associated with an asset. Option values can only be specified for an asset. The options for which the values are captured are defined for the asset type on which the asset is based.

The option values that apply to a specific physical asset depend on the asset’s physical context and only the applicable option values are captured for the asset when the asset model is configured. After option values are inserted, the asset needs to be synchronised. During synchronisation, each rule (specified for items in the asset type model) is evaluated using the applicable option value (specified for an asset) to determine whether an item in the asset type model is applicable to and inherited as an item in the asset model for the physical asset.
