Barcode Scanning
The barcode scanning functionality is used as a method of identifying assets.
When creating a work order, you can scan the asset's barcode in order to select the appropriate asset, instead of typing, doing a list lookup or doing a tree lookup of the Asset Code. The Barcode Number can be entered manually or scanned, depending on the type of device being used.
This method of selecting an asset is useful when the asset's code is not available, but the asset's barcode is printed on it to be able to identify the asset. Furthermore, barcodes could be very long or could not even be legible, in which case scanning would be required.
Process
The barcode scanning functionality is used to select the Asset Code when creating a new work order, by clicking Scan Barcode.
On a desktop computer:
- The Enter Barcode screen opens, where you can type in the Barcode Number.
- On clicking OK, the related asset is found and the Asset Code field is populated.
On a mobile device:
- The Barcode Scanner opens via the device's camera and you can hover the device over the barcode.
- The Enter Barcode screen will open, with the Barcode Number already captured.
- On clicking OK, the related asset is found and the Asset Code field is populated.
You also have the option to type the Barcode Number when using a mobile device. Refer to Scan the Asset Barcode for more information.
