Match Update
Match update enables you to make changes to multiple records simultaneously. When you update a field via match update by entering a value, changing a value or clearing the field, the change will apply to all the selected records. You can perform a match update on one or more records, and on one or more fields of those records.
Match update is accessed by clicking Assist > Match Update and is available on these entities:
- Asset entities
- Asset Importances
- Asset Type entities
- Asset Type Task Resources
- Meters
- Monitoring Point Trigger Expressions
- Regular Asset Components
- Regular Asset Task Resources
- Regular Asset Task Spares
- Regular Asset Tasks

Match update is also available on certain recursive dashboards. Please note, in a few cases you have to select the record in the grid in order for the Match Update option to display in the Assist panel in the sidebar.
To access a recursive dashboard, right-click the applicable node in the asset tree or asset type tree, click Browse, then select the entity to browse to.
The recursive dashboards that these apply to are as follows:
Asset type tree recursive dashboards
- Components (Regular Asset Type Components and Placeholder Asset Type Components)
- All Tasks
- Regular Tasks
- Asset Type Task Resources
- Task Spares.

Refer to Recursive Dashboard for more information.
Match update implementation
This functionality will adhere to the rules and validations for the entity and a match update will fail because of these rules. When you attempt to update a field which is read-only when a work order is in a Closed base status, then the update will fail. Similarly, if you try to clear a required field on a record, the update will also fail.
For user defined fields to be selectable when performing a match update, Enable Match Update needs to be set to true on the specific user defined field. Refer to the User Defined Fields Screen for more information.
When performing a match update, a notification message will display upon saving to indicate the number of successful updates and the number of failed updates.
Clicking More Info on the message will display additional notifications at the base of the dashboard, which when clicked, will select the applicable record on the grid. This enables you to locate the exact record for which the update passed or failed, in cases where the update was applied to a batch of records.
Match update as background task
A match update can be performed as a background task. The progress of the background task can be monitored. Refer to Background Tasks for more information.
Match update permissions
The appropriate permissions are required per entity to perform a match update on an entity. Recursive dashboards use the same permissions that apply to the normal dashboards, special permissions may not be required to perform match updates on recursive dashboards.
